Control White Grubs Now!
Japanese beetle white grubs are the most common damaging grubs on Wisconsin athletic fields. These white grubs feed on turf roots from late August through October and again in mid-April. When present in high enough numbers, white grubs can cause significant turf damage. Preventative applications are suggested for sites with a history of white grub infestations. Generally, if you found more than 5-10 Japanese beetle grubs per square foot last fall or spring, your site may warrant an application. Digging activity from skunks, raccoons, or birds during grubs feeding times may be an indication of grub activity. Sites with turf near areas of Japanese beetle activity should be carefully monitored for grub activity.

Get Ready for 4th of July Festivities
The 4th of July not only brings a day to spend with our families and reflect on what is great about our country, but also a time of great stress on many of our turfgrass areas. With a little planning now, however, you may be able to reduce some of the negative impacts of your community's Independence Day activities on your turf sites. Fireworks, foot traffic, parking, and tents should all be considered carefully to minimize potential turfgrass damage athletic fields and other turf areas.
