Educational & Environmental Gardens
Are you interested in creating a stimulating learning and exploring environment in a school, park or commercial setting? Looking to create an area for relaxation and enjoyment? Do you want to help create a better environment and encourage others to follow? Our educational and environmental gardens may be just what you are looking for. Projects include butterfly/hummingbird gardens, rain gardens, and rain barrels. These projects will include educational signage where appropriate as well as educational materials and activities.
Butterfly/Hummingbird Gardens
These gardens are designed to attract caterpillars, butterflies and/or hummingbirds. Site selection, plant species, wildlife shelter, water and food sources will all be incorporated to create the ideal setting for these insects and birds. Butterfly gardens are ideal teaching tools and provide enjoyment and learning to a wide range of community members.
Rain Gardens
The theory of a rain garden is to trap storm water runnoff from an area such as a roof, parking lot or other impervious surface. This water is then filtered through the plant's root system which can remove some of the storm water's potential harmful contaminants. New breakthroughs in research are changing the world of rain gardens on a continual basis, and we work hard to stay on top of these advancements to provide you with the most informed basis of rain garden selection and design. We can design several types of rain gardens including those with native species, a mix of native and non-native plants or burmed turfgrass rain "gardens." We will assist our clients in obtaining grant funding for rain garden projects where applicable.
Rain Barrels
Rain barrels are above ground storage tanks designed to hold storm water until it can be used at a later date. For example, a rain barrel can be used to collect water from a residential or commercial downspout. This water can be used after the rain event is over, to water landscape plants. Rain barrels can be designed to provide an aesthetically pleasing way to help water conservation and storm water quality.
